    Augmenting a Famous Fossil

To enchant youngsters and parents alike, we used augmented reality to enhance the skeleton, interactive holograms to invite hands-on exploration, and projection mapping onto a three-dimensional surface to convey stories of a dinosaur’s daily life. The culminating immersive diorama featured high-fidelity animations that capture the extinction event that reshaped life on Earth.

Situated in the main gallery space, “Create Victoria” is a station where up to four groups personalize a hologram version of Victoria. “Watch Victoria” is a projection-based exhibit that showcases Victoria’s scientifically-verified behaviours. A low eight-foot-diameter table features a 3D-printed surface that forms the canvas for projection-mapped animation. Visitors follow Victoria through key phases in her life story—hunting, mating, and raising young.
