We create narrative experiences for story-telling environments like museums, galleries, science centres, themed attractions, expositions, and travelling exhibits. We work at a dynamic intersection of subjects, technologies, audiences, stakeholders, partners and spaces.
In 2020 we worked with 72 culturally focused clients in 8 countries. Our outputs are diverse – interactive conversations with avatars of holocaust survivors; a multiplayer game about the health of the oceans; immersive linear animation and collaborative play to tell Canada’s story at Expo 2021 More than 10 million visitors will interact with our work this year.
We are a group of thinkers, tinkerers, designers, artists, gamers, developers and storytellers who bridge disciplines to build experiences from scratch. We are flexible, curious, and fascinated by the design and story-telling challenges of our time.
The Film Production Lead (FPL) guides the efforts of a talented multidisciplinary team through all stages of production, while reporting to conceptual leads at project milestones to ensure productions are meeting the creative vision. The FPL’s focus will be on productions composed of original and archival footage, the FPL is comfortable working in a wide array of media formats – from documentary-style productions and animated shorts, to vast spatial projection…and everything in between.
Of the above formats, the FPL can expect to be working principally in the film media, so fluency with the camera is a notable plus. Whatever the scale, format and creative concept, the common denominator in all these productions is message-driven storytelling. First and foremost, the FPL has a passion and working experience in audiovisual manifestations of story.
What we need: Big Picture
Starting from a client brief, and working closely with a core conceptual team in early stages, the FPL guides a multidisciplinary team through all phases of the production pipeline. The FPL will inform the approach to treatments, storyboards, and direct the creation production and post-production deliverables, leading internal and external team presentations at project milestones and ensuring the finished production meets messaging, storytelling and creative goals outlined at project start.
The FPL has a broad cultural fluency and storytelling lexicon to inform a wide variety of media formats. The world is a fascinating place and the FPL derives satisfaction translating it in myriad ways to audiences. The FPL is able to translate the broad brushstrokes of Creative Treatments into effective and nuanced narratives in the finished product.
Knows the Media Production Pipeline
The FPL comes from a background of creative practice, with experience contributing directly to any element the production of linear media—as an editor, writer, animator, filmmaker for the screen, TV or the web. The FPL has deep experience with media production and is comfortable with production pipelines across a variety of media formats with a focus on animation.
The FPL is comfortable leading and participating in conceptual dialogue in early stages; and is a team-oriented and sensitive communicator who brings the best out of creative collaborators.
The FPL is able to manage overlapping workstreams, impending (strict) deadlines, and tight turn arounds with grace and poise. Has experience managing teams and external contractors.
- Contributes to (and/or leads) the development of narrative concepts, expressed through creative treatments, cultural references, and/or high-level storyboards
- Holds a creative vision through all phases of production
- Provides creative direction to a full production team, guiding all aspects of production, including visual sequence, typographical approach, VO performance and sound design.
- Participates in client presentations at project milestones.
- Contribute positively and collaboratively to the NGX workplace.
Pre-requisite experiences and skills
- Experience producing or directing documentaries or linear media for TV and/or the web.
- Strong verbal and visual communication skills.
- Team player who can thrive in a collaborative and dynamic creative environment.
- A demo reel that reflects your fluency and skillset.
- Ready to start in early 2021.
- Working experience and technical fluency with all stages film production.
