Spotlighting protest letters

Overview
Writing Wrongs is inspired by the discovery of 300+ historic letters of appeal written by interned Japanese-Canadians to government authorities during the Second World War. Together, these letters form a powerful collective voice—direct, personal, and impossible to ignore. They speak to the deep injustice faced by marginalized communities, while drawing clear connections to the displacement crises we continue to witness today.
Writing Wrongs won the BC Historical Federation Storytelling Award in 2022. The online exhibition is open to all through the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre.

The Power of Letters
Writing Wrongs is structured as a four-part narrative that hinges on a central theme of “Right to Home”. The journey features an integrated dialogue space, informed by curriculum requirements, that supports narrative co-creation, exchange, and discussion. Visually evocative, this web-based exhibit features video vignettes, original audio, archival photos, and curated sets of letters written by both Issei (first generation immigrants) and Nisei (Canadian-born) Japanese Canadians.

ngx worked closely with Nikkei National Museum, Digital Museums Canada, Royal British Columbia Museum, Tabata Productions, educators, and Japanese-Canadian voices nationwide to conceptualize, plan, design, and produce this vivid digital narrative.
