Craigdarroch Castle is an historic, Victorian-era Scottish Baronial mansion located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The home of wealthy coal baron, Robert Dunsmuir, the castle tells the story of its inhabitants through immersive recreations of castle life in the 1920s.
In 2016, NGX worked with the castle to launch their mobile guided tour. This tablet-based tour includes 3D Augmented Reality vignettes, audio storytelling, digital artifact labels to interpret their immersive rooms, and interactive wayfinding. Visitors can explore stories related to gender, class, and architecture. Learn more about that project here.
For this new project, NGX is partnering with Craigdarroch to develop a Digital Strategy for their heritage destination. The discovery phase focuses on understanding the institution, their visitors, their current goals, their long term vision, and their comfort with innovative technology. This discovery is complemented by research into industry trends, best practises, and innovative approaches. The assessment includes evaluating opportunities to improve and enhance the current mobile guided tour and AR app, as well as to forecast and recommend the optimal media experiences for Craigdarroch in 2020. Considerations for the best match will include operational sustainability, budgetary forecasting, as well as anticipating the needs of future visitors to the site.
