Royal BC Museum – Totems

Stories carved in cedar

Victoria, Canada

Overview

The Royal BC Museum’s Totems online exhibit, funded by the Digital Museums of Canada, shares the life and journey of First Nations coastal carvings. The “Stories Carved In Cedar” exhibition has layers of exploration, intertwining the narratives and history of each carving while visuals and audio reinforce the stories of these carvings. The virtual exhibit features carvings from Kwakwaka’wakw, Heiltsuk, Nuxalk, Gitxsan, Haida, and Nuu-chah-nulth communities.
