Overview
ngx adapted a powerful existing experience at the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre into a travelling exhibit that can be transported to cultural institutions around the world. The work explores the history of Nazi propaganda, evoking pertinent connections to today’s media landscape and the rise of misinformation.
Through careful planning, we developed a format that supports portability without compromising historical rigour or educational depth. Digitally supported interactives and thoughtfully curated content ensure the exhibition remains both flexible and grounded—ready to meet audiences wherever it travels.
A Digital Docent
One of the most powerful elements of the original Age of Influence exhibit in Vancouver were the museum staff who deftly guided visitors. For the travelling version, we developed interactives where the digital content acts as a docent to shepherd visitors toward a similar experience. The concluding activity was fully reworked to fit this format to reinforce connections between common propaganda techniques used throughout history, including today.
All of the digital content is also equipped with tactile accessibility keypads. These keypads ensure visitors with vision impairments, restricted mobility, or limited fine motor capabilities can access assisted text and menu navigation tools to experience the exhibit wherever it travels. ngx developed an intricate assistive text script and carefully mapped out all user interactions to assure that the accessible experince flowed seamlessly for the users.
ngx designed the full physical travelling exhibit alongside our fabrication partners. The exhibit needed to be modular to ensure it could fit into numerous host institutions while also still having an impactful physical presence. Each section of the exhibit has its own large modular structure to support the physical panels as well as having a dedicated kiosk to host the digital experince. ngx worked closely with the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre to design the large scale physical panels to complement the digital experince.
